I would just add the counterpoint that a huge series of films culminating in an impossible sci-fi plot to "rescue" half of all living things in the universe doesn't sound like any nihilism that I've ever heard about. But, then again, these stories are almost constructed in such a way that viewers can use them to shape their own meaning in any number of ways. Also, another thing people can learn from weird stories like these, is that a changing world doesn't necessarily mean the breakdown of social order. It just means the world looks a little different today than it did yesterday. Again, I appreciate you reading and keeping the discussion going.
